Standardizing calculation and reporting of freight transport emissions on a global scale – the needs, the achievements and perspective of a successful industry/research cooperation

Building on developments since a TRB Session in 2014, this workshop intends to inform attendees from research and industry sectors of the progress achieved in assessing and harmonizing the calculation and reporting of carbon footprint of transport chains on a global scale. It focuses on the different perspectives of theory and practice: What are advantages, what are challenges, what has been achieved already, which future developments are needed. Following key-notes from industry and research, audience and experts will discuss the situation.

The workshop is organized by DLR and Frauenhofer with Smart Freight Centre and TNO as presenters

Objectives are to:

  • increase in the understanding of the need for a globally-harmonized GHG calculation methodology
  • give an overview of ongoing global efforts
  • secure engagement and support of workshop participants
  • offer platform for exchange of perspectives and to discuss thoughts and ideas of various stakeholders
  • offer opportunity to discuss specific issues with panelists
  • offer opportunity for those engaged in development of standard to learn about different perspectives and thoughts
